Full Description

The feature was a 3.10m wide shallow ditch, 0.22m deep. It was filled by a deposit of firm light grey silty clay from which a small assemblage of eight fragments of abraded ceramic building material of a broadly medieval date was recovered. The environmental sample from this fill also produced a large assemblage of charcoal and a small number of charred plant remains, which is potentially indicative of heath waste. Additionally, a small quantity of hammerscale (0.28g) was also recovered from the sample. An animal bone of indeterminate species and element discovered in a sample.
