Full Description
Linear features cut into the natural superficial deposits that appear to represent water management on the site. The area to the west raises from around 10m aOD to around 12m aOD. The lower area, where this evaluation was undertaken appears to have undergone some water management to take the run off from the higher ground. These linears may represent an attempt to drain the run off and protect the lower lying area.
One linear ran N-S and measured 870mm wide, with a U-shaped proJle, which appears to be cut from below the subsoil, at a depth of 460mm bgl, with the linear extending to
950mm bgl. As the infill material (107) was similar in appearance to the subsoil, the transition was unclear. Palaeoenvironmental sampling from fill yielded no results.
Second linear ran northwest-southeast, and was also cut into the natural clay. 2m wide, U-shaped profile, cut from beneath subsoil at a depth of 800mm bgl and extending as deep as 1.5bgl. Single infill material of mid-dark sandy brown loam.
