Bunny Hall model farm. The earliest in the county are Sir Thomas Parkyns' farms in Bradmore and Bunny. In the 1720s and 30s he rebuilt estate farmhouses and provided them with brick barns, but there is no evidence of fully planned farmyards. These new farmsteads were built to serve the open field farms and not part of the process of enclosure. The buildings are red brick in the classical style with red tiled roofs (1)

Sir Thomas Parkyns ‘the wrestling baronet’, rebuilt in the 1720s and 30s many of the farms on his estate in a plain classical style of red and black brick with red tiled roofs. Many are signed with his initials. He inherited his estate in 1680 and the farms were built to serve the parish’s open-field farms (2) (3)

On both sides of the drive leading up to Bunny Hall are two barns one dated 1734 and part of the other 1718 designed by Sir Thomas Parkyns. He was an individualist, building according to his own ideas and not conforming to contemporary fashion or constraints of formal training. His work has been variously described as ‘astonishing’ ‘weird and unexpected’ and ‘belonging to the lunatic fringe’. However, the numerous farm buildings he designed are arguably of a fairly generic style typical of the time. (4)
