Source/Archive record (Unpublished document) SNT5152 - Carbon-14 dates from Margidunum

Title Carbon-14 dates from Margidunum
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1995

Abstract/Summary

Carbon-14 dating results from the alluvial deposits in the trenches and test pits excavated near Margidunum (see SNT2071/DR201: D. Knight and S. Malone. 1993. "Construction of Gravity Sewer between Newton and Wynhill Pumping Station, Notts. Summary Report on Archaeological Investigations," Trent and Peak Archaeological Trust). A personal note on the front of the report, from David Knight, states "I enclose details of the C14 dates from Margidunum, plus invoice. These fit well with pollen analysis and Chris Tant's (?) analyses of the lacustrine clays. Presumably, post- LNEBA peat lands affected by shrinkage and/or ploughing." Three samples came back with reports. Calibrated dates: BC 5270 to 4940; BC 6035 to 5740; and BC 2205 to 1895.
