Abstract/Summary
A programme of archaeological strip, map and record was undertaken on land at Grooms Cottage, Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, as a condition of planning consent for a residential development.
Geophysical survey and evaluation in 2013 and a 2020 watching brief revealed a large area of enclosure and boundary ditches of Iron Age and Romano-British date.
The current works were undertaken between 23rd November and 11th December 2020. The excavations revealed the northern extent a series of enclosure ditches, pits and a large L-shaped boundary ditch. This is a continuation of a settlement landscape identified to the south of the area of excavation. Pottery dating to the Late Iron Age and Roman periods was retrieved from many of the ditch fills.
