Abstract/Summary

A scheme of archaeological evaluation was undertaken at ‘Bulcote Steading’, Bulcote Farm, Old Main Road, Bulcote, Nottinghamshire. The site of proposed development lies in an area of archaeological importance. The area of land that is the subject of the archaeological evaluation surrounds the buildings of an extensive Grade II Listed model farm, constructed in the early 20th century by the Nottingham Corporation and forms part of a development of new-build housing incorporating the conversion of historic farm buildings. The site is close to a Bronze Age funerary landscape, with eight barrows identified to the west, and a further cropmark ring ditch to the east. A probable Iron Age settlement is also situated to the immediate west of the farm, and cropmark evidence related to this extends beyond the farm into fields to the east. Beyond the foundations of the 20th century farm buildings, no archaeology was identified, and no finds were recovered.
