Description

The presence of the pipeline conditioned the program of gravel extraction, hence the stripping and archaeological fieldwork, it being necessary for ground to its E to be stripped and extracted in 1999 - 2001, largely before that to its W, in 2001 - 2003. The E area, over 7.4ha. The W area, over 10.4ha. … Trial trenches … five (nos 9-13). The small area covered by each of the trenches was subsequently incorporated into larger scale area stripping. (1) Gird reference for centre of W area. See E197 for trial trenches, 1992.
