Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at land off Mansfield Road, Little Morton, Retford, Nottinghamshire. The evaluation was undertaken to satisfy planning conditions for the construction of a Battery Energy Storage Facility. A total of six trenches were excavated across the 0.845ha site.
No archaeological features or deposits were identified in four trenches. A set of parallel ditches was investigated in one trench.
No finds or other datable material were recovered from the features, and the ditches do not align with any pathways or historic field boundaries shown on historic maps of the area. No further analysis is possible therefore with regard to their date or function, although it is possible that they represent the partial remains of a trackway, or that they form the extension of a Romano-British brickwork plan field system previously recorded immediately to the east of the site.
