Abstract/Summary
The site lies due west of Clipstone in an area of no known archaeological activity. A preceding geophysical survey did not identify any specific anomalies that could be interpreted as being of archaeological origin.
The evaluation revealed very limited archaeological potential: a relatively shallow topsoil deposit directly overlay the natural geology. Eight pits with charcoal-rich fills and two linear features were identified, none of which produced dateable finds. Soil samples collected for radiocarbon dating indicate a post-medieval date for two of the pits, while one pit can be assigned to the late prehistoric-early Roman period.
