The Historic Farmsteads Survey was carried out by NCC Heritage over a 3 year period. The aim of the survey was to identify and assess Nottinghamshires agricultural built resource, Vernacular buildings and model farms were of particular interest. Outlying or named farmsteads were identified using map regression (Chapman 1776, Sanderson 1835, 1:25 1st Edition) to create a shortlist for field survey. The survey only assessed non designated buildings. Field work was undertaken using heritage post graduate students from Nottingham Trent University under the guidance and supervision of the NCC Historic Buildings Team. A 'Brunskill' type survey grid was designed for consistent data capture.
